Message to seniors

The State of Washington has given us a powerful tool to help seniors remain in their homes. If you are 61 years old, own your home, and make less than $84,000 a year you can apply for an exemption that can potentially save you thousands of dollars on your property taxes. Our office works hard to quickly process these applications. While we do accept paper applications, we strongly encourage you to apply online here: Senior Exemption Portal

Paper applications take far more time and staff resources to process, causing backlogs in our system. To speed things up for everyone, please apply using our online process. If you need help you can call us at 206-296-3920 and a member of our staff can walk you through the process. We want everyone to get the tax relief they are entitled to as quickly as possible!

How exemptions and deferrals work

State law provides 2 tax benefit programs for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. They include property tax exemptions and property tax deferrals. With exemptions, you pay less taxes or none at all. With deferrals, you are able to pay your taxes at a later date.

We encourage you or those you know to take advantage of this meaningful tax relief for citizens living on fixed incomes.
