Tenant's Notice to Quit: leave at end of lease term (Form C)

Tenants use Form C to tell their landlord they’ll be moving out at the end of their lease. This will end the lease for all tenants (even if there’s more than 1 tenant on the lease).

Use Form C: Tenant's Notice to Quit to tell your landlord that you’re moving out at the end of your tenancy (lease).

Give notice

By law, you must give your landlord the following notice to end the tenancy (lease):

• year-to-year lease - give notice to landlord at least 3 months before the end of your lease
• month-to-month - give notice to landlord at least 1 month before the end of the month you want to move out
• week-to-week - give notice to your landlord at least 1 week before the end of the week you want to move out
• manufactured home (mobile home) - give notice to your landlord at least 1 month before the end of your lease

If you’re giving notice for a year-to-year lease or a month-to-month lease, you need to give notice before the day of the month that rent is due. For example, if your lease ends on 31 December and rent is due on 01 December you need to give notice no later than 30 November for a month-to-month lease and 31 August for a year-to-year lease.

The Notice to Quit will end the lease for all tenants (even if there’s more than 1 tenant on the lease). If 1 of the tenants provides a Notice to Quit, it affects all tenants in the unit.

Who can use this form

A tenant can use this form to tell their landlord that they’re moving out at the end of their lease.

What you need to do

1. Complete the form.
2. Keep a copy of the form for your records.
3. Formally serve (deliver) the completed form to your landlord. Check the form for details on delivery options and instructions on how to formally serve the landlord.
4. Provide a forwarding address for the landlord to return your security deposit (optional).
5. Remove all your belongings from the unit and inspect the unit with the landlord before the end of the lease.
