Alameda County's Juvenile Justice Center is the first LEED® Gold-rated building of its kind.

Buildings produce more greenhouse gases than many people realize—about a third of our total greenhouse gas emissions in Alameda County. Knowing this, our Board of Supervisors adopted green building ordinances for residential and commercial development in unincorporated communities as well as for County buildings. The County also constructed the Juvenile Justice Center and the Castro Valley Library, both U.S. Green Building Council LEED® Gold rated.
